The women's League Cup has a new name, a new format, and a new multi-year sponsorship deal - but three WSL clubs won't be invited to the party.

Say goodbye to the Subway Women's League Cup. From the 2026/2027 season, the competition will strut about under a shiny new title - the Subway Players Cup. The sandwich giants have inked a multi-year sponsorship agreement to keep their name on the tin, as WSL Full-Time reports.
The format is getting a proper makeover too. A Swiss-style league phase with regional fixtures will replace the old setup. Every club is guaranteed at least six matches in that phase - a welcome bump from previous editions.
The top eight sides from the league phase advance to the knockout rounds, much like before. But here's the twist: the three Barclays Women's Super League clubs involved in European competition will sit this one out entirely. More sandwiches for everyone else, then.
The league phase draw takes place on Thursday, 6 August 2026. Mark your calendars for the final too - it's pencilled in for the weekend of 13/14 March 2027.
