Freigang faces lengthy anti-doping probe

Three missed reports trigger formal proceedings

Germany international Laura Freigang is at the centre of an anti-doping investigation after failing to meet three separate reporting obligations set by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The case has been referred to the German Football Association (DFB), whose Control Committee has been examining the matter since early June.

Two-year ban looms

The stakes are significant. Should the investigation reach an unfavourable conclusion, the Eintracht Frankfurt forward could be handed a suspension of up to two years. The DFB has acknowledged that the medical and legal dimensions of the case are both complex and wide-ranging, meaning a final ruling is unlikely before December at the earliest - each missed report requires its own detailed assessment.

Business as usual - for now

Crucially, Freigang is free to continue playing while the process unfolds. Eintracht Frankfurt sports director Katharina Kiel has confirmed that the player remains a central part of the squad and will feature in upcoming fixtures until a verdict is delivered. The club has publicly backed Freigang throughout, standing firmly behind her as the investigation runs its course.
