Frauen-Bundesliga
The Frauen-Bundesliga is considering a playoff format to decide its title, alongside sweeping changes to scheduling, marketing and broadcast rights ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Germany's Frauen-Bundesliga is weighing up a dramatic overhaul of how its champion is crowned. Under the proposed model, the top four sides after the regular season would enter a playoff bracket, while the bottom two would contest relegation matches - adding seven extra fixtures to the calendar.
The league is also rethinking its commercial approach. Rather than chasing short-term revenue, the FBL intends to prioritise reach and visibility, banking on the idea that bigger audiences now will drive stronger sponsorship and ticket income down the line.
From the 2026/27 campaign, matchday fragmentation will be reined in. A marquee fixture is set to be staged on Friday evenings, with another on Saturday afternoons and the remaining games pushed to Sundays. Four special matchdays during the men's international breaks will further boost exposure.
A rights auction is due to be announced at the end of August. The league's 14 clubs are expected to vote on the outcome by 30 November, with the next broadcast cycle likely spanning two years.
