Double blow at Bayern-Campus

Bayern Munich's women's side have been dealt a significant pre-season setback after confirming that both Franziska Kett and Edna Imade sustained ankle injuries during Thursday's training session at Bayern-Campus.

The club confirmed the news on Friday, revealing that neither player will be available for selection for several weeks. A cloud of doubt now hangs over their participation in the Frauen-Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin on 21 August.

Kett absence opens door for deputies

Kett, 21, had been expected to nail down the starting left-back berth this season. A 13-time Germany international, her absence creates an immediate opportunity for Katharina Naschenweng, who has battled injury problems of her own in recent seasons. New arrival Sarah Mattner also offers cover on the left side of defence.

Imade's forward battle put on hold

Imade, 25, had been vying for a spot in Bayern's attack alongside Pernille Harder and Jovana Damnjanovic. The Nigerian-born forward now faces a race against time to recover and force her way back into contention once fit.

With the season fast approaching, head coach and staff will be hoping neither absence drags beyond initial estimates.
