Georgia Amoore delivered the performance of her career on Thursday night, pouring in 25 points - 16 of them in a sensational fourth quarter - as the Washington Mystics overcame the Phoenix Mercury to seal their best regular-season record since 2019.
Trailing 63-53 with just over eight minutes left, Washington erupted on a devastating 17-2 run to seize a 70-65 advantage. Amoore drilled back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead to 78-73 with 1:18 on the clock, finishing with a career-best six triples.
Kiki Iriafen was equally impressive, posting 20 points and 12 rebounds for her 19th double-double this season. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton iced the result with two free throws at the 28.1-second mark, stretching the cushion to seven.
Kahleah Copper did everything she could for Phoenix, dropping 35 points on 13-of-22 shooting. In doing so, she became the fastest player in Mercury franchise history to reach 2,000 points, hitting the milestone in just 103 games.
Lexi Held's four-point play late in the third quarter had briefly handed the Mercury their first lead since the opening minutes. But a Flagrant 1 upgrade on the foul denied her the chance of a seven-point possession, and Phoenix never regained control.
Washington face Los Angeles on Friday, while Phoenix host Toronto on Saturday.
