The U20 World Cup in Poland is poised to pit two of women's football's most exciting young talents against each other when Weronika Araśniewicz and Alice Soto take the field on 8 September in a Poland-Mexico clash.
For 18-year-old midfielder Araśniewicz, this is uncharted territory. The Pole moved from Diamenty Warsaw to FC Barcelona's youth set-up in 2024 before earning a loan to VfL Wolfsburg, where she wasted no time - scoring on her Bundesliga debut and going on to feature in the UEFA Women's Champions League. She opens the tournament with Poland against Argentina, as Soccerdonna reports.
Soto, by contrast, is a seasoned campaigner at 20. She first appeared professionally for Pachuca at just 13, later joining Rayadas de Monterrey and playing a key role in their final against Club América. This will be her third U20 World Cup, having competed in both the 2022 and 2024 editions. Mexico begin their campaign against Benin.
The pair's paths will cross directly on 8 September when Poland host Mexico - a meeting of debut hunger and tournament know-how that promises to be one of the group stage's standout fixtures.
