Everton Women are heading into the new campaign with a spring in their step - and a freshly appointed boss at the helm. Scott Phelan, a former youth midfielder at the club, was confirmed as permanent manager in June after an interim spell. Safe to say, the man knows where the kettle is at Finch Farm.
The Toffees have been busy in the transfer market. Jutta Rantala, Noémie Mouchon, and Hannah Cain have all arrived from Leicester City. Zara Kramzar's loan from Roma has been turned permanent, and Hannah Blundell's move from Manchester United is now a done deal too.
Perhaps the headline signing, though, is Australian forward Holly McNamara, who joins from Melbourne City with back-to-back Golden Boot awards tucked under her arm. Not a bad CV, that.
Naomi Layzell arrives on loan from Manchester City, bringing Champions League pedigree - she once scored against Barcelona in the Women's Champions League. Injury troubles are behind her, and Everton will be hoping she hits the ground running, as The Guardian reports.
The schedule has been generous. Everton open against newly-promoted Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic before hosting Birmingham City. Last season's top three? They don't appear until November. A handy run-in to build momentum.
The women's side will continue playing at Goodison Park, where they relocated last summer. Their debut there came against Manchester United - not a bad way to christen the place. Training, meanwhile, remains at the well-equipped Finch Farm in Halewood, shared with the men's squad.
