Aryna Sabalenka heads into the 2026 US Open with a point to prove. The Belarusian, chasing a remarkable third consecutive title at Flushing Meadows, has endured a turbulent stretch of form that would rattle most players - but not, it seems, her.
Since April, Sabalenka's record stands at a modest 17-7, with no finals appearances. Her most recent setback came at the Cincinnati Open, where she squandered commanding leads in both sets of a third-round exit - 5-1 up in the first-set tie-break and 4-1 ahead in the second.
The stakes extend beyond the trophy. Elena Rybakina currently tops the live rankings and needs only a semi-final run in New York to seize the No 1 spot. Sabalenka, by contrast, must win the entire tournament to retain her position at the summit.
