Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese is staring down a one-game suspension after picking up her eighth technical foul of the WNBA season during a clash with Portland.
The call came as Reese tangled with the Fire's Carla Leite while teammate Rhyne Howard drained a three-pointer. Reese was visibly unhappy with the decision, protesting on the court immediately afterwards.
Under WNBA rules, an eighth technical foul triggers an automatic one-game ban - meaning Reese would sit out Sunday's fixture against the Minnesota Lynx unless the league office intervenes.
She has the right to appeal to have the foul rescinded, and there is recent precedent working in her favour. Earlier this month, the WNBA overturned a technical foul against Caitlin Clark in identical circumstances, sparing the Indiana star from the same automatic suspension for her eighth tech of the campaign.
Whether the league grants Reese the same leniency remains to be seen.
