Wolfsburg bolster squad with Chelsea loanee

VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Mara Alber on a season-long loan from FC Chelsea, making her the third German U-23 international to arrive at the club this summer. She joins Julia Landenberger, who came in from RB Leipzig, and Katharina Piljic from Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

A fresh start after injury struggles

Alber, who will take the number 18 shirt, signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2025 but never made a Women's Super League appearance due to injury. A loan spell at Werder Bremen followed earlier this year, yielding twelve Bundesliga outings and two goals - though she admitted she was not fully fit throughout that stint.

Familiar face in the dugout

The forward said she was thrilled to link up with head coach Stephan Lerch, who previously managed her at Hoffenheim, and praised Wolfsburg's ambitions in women's football. Vanessa Bernauer, the club's director of women's football, said Alber's talent would add offensive quality and creativity to the side as she looks to rediscover her best form following an ankle injury, as reported by Kicker.
