Two icons enter the Hall of Fame

This weekend marks a landmark moment for women's basketball as Candace Parker and Elena Delle Donne receive the sport's highest honour - enshrinement in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Both players reshaped the forward position in the women's game, bringing a level of versatility that altered how basketball is played at the highest level. Their legacies stretch well beyond individual accolades.

Delle Donne's unconventional path

Elena Delle Donne famously walked away from UConn after just two days, opting instead to return home and suit up for the University of Delaware. It proved a masterstroke. The Chicago Sky selected her in the 2013 draft, and she quickly became the franchise's cornerstone - earning MVP honours and rewriting the team's record books.

Parker's homecoming triumph

Candace Parker grew up in Naperville, Illinois, became a high school sensation, then starred at Tennessee. Selected first overall in the 2008 WNBA draft, she did something no player had done before: winning both MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Years later, she returned to her roots by joining the Chicago Sky, where she helped deliver the franchise's first championship.
