VfL Wolfsburg have moved to strengthen their forward line with two eye-catching additions ahead of the new Women's Bundesliga campaign. Mara Alber arrives on loan from Chelsea, while Lara Prasnikar has signed from Utah Royals FC.
Alber, just 20, developed through spells at TSG Hoffenheim and SV Werder Bremen. She is expected to feature from the off when Wolfsburg open their season against 1. FC Nürnberg.
Prasnikar, 28, is a proven Bundesliga goalscorer. Across 162 top-flight appearances for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and Eintracht Frankfurt, the Slovenian netted 68 times. She has spoken enthusiastically about joining a club she regards as one of Europe's biggest.
The arrivals do not stop there. National team striker Giovanna Hoffmann has also joined as she works her way back from injury, and Katharina Piljic brings significant Bundesliga pedigree following her move from Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Wolfsburg must cope without several high-profile figures this term. Club legend Alexandra Popp has returned to Borussia Dortmund, while Vivien Endemann has headed to FC Liverpool and Lineth Beerensteyn signed for Real Madrid - a trio of losses that underline how much rebuilding is under way.
