Defending champions Bayern München have been handed a tricky opening assignment in the DFB-Pokal, drawn against Borussia Mönchengladbach - a second-division side that earned their spot through the playoffs.
Record cup winners VfL Wolfsburg, meanwhile, will take on SC Sand, another second-tier outfit with serious pedigree, having reached the cup final twice, as Soccerdonna reports.
The draw threw up several eye-catching encounters. Hertha BSC, freshly promoted to the second division, will square off against Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln, while Viktoria Berlin welcome Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
A total of 32 teams were split into two pots: 16 playoff qualifiers on one side, with 14 Bundesliga clubs from last season and the top two finishers from the second division on the other.
The remaining ties: VfL Bochum vs. SV Werder Bremen, Blau-Gelb Marburg vs. RB Leipzig, FC Schalke 04 vs. SGS Essen, 1. FC Magdeburg vs. 1. FC Union Berlin, SV Eutingen vs. FC Carl Zeiss Jena, FC Ingolstadt vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05, SG 99 Andernach vs. SC Freiburg, SpVgg Greuther Fürth vs. TSG Hoffenheim, SV Meppen vs. Hamburger SV, ATS Buntentor vs. 1. FC Nürnberg, Turbine Potsdam vs. VfB Stuttgart, and Karlsruher SC vs. Eintracht Frankfurt.
All first-round matches are scheduled for 26-28 September 2026, with precise kick-off times still to be confirmed.
