Newcastle United have snapped up 19-year-old forward Jessie Gale on loan from Arsenal - and frankly, the Magpies might have got themselves a bargain.
Gale tore through BWSL2 last season, bagging eight goals across 22 appearances while on loan at Portsmouth and Bristol City. That's a rate of 0.64 goals per 90 minutes, placing her firmly among the division's sharpest strikers.
Here's the fun bit: Gale didn't even enter an academy until she was 15, joining Charlton Athletic well after most pros have already worn out several pairs of boots. She later moved to Arsenal and signed her first professional deal in 2025 following a productive spell at Watford.
Two of those eight goals last term? Scored against Newcastle. Nothing like impressing your future employer on the job.
Gale has her sights set on helping Newcastle win promotion this campaign. She's also preparing to represent England at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, which could see her miss the opening weeks of the BWSL2 season.
Still, a teenager juggling a promotion push and a World Cup is hardly cause for complaint. Newcastle will happily wait, as reported by WSL Football.
