Long road back

Bayern Munich could be about to welcome back two of their most important players. Lena Oberdorf and Giulia Gwinn are edging closer to competitive action after lengthy injury layoffs, with head coach José Barcala hinting a return could come soon.

Oberdorf's absence has been particularly painful. The midfielder suffered a second cruciate ligament tear in her right knee last October - just 50 days after returning from her previous knee injury. Gwinn, meanwhile, has been out since undergoing shoulder surgery in May.

Cautious optimism

Barcala struck a hopeful but measured tone, saying: "Möglicherweise kehren Giulia und Lena zurück." He stressed that both players must safely navigate two more training sessions before any final decision is made on their availability.

Neither featured in Bayern's Supercup clash with VfL Wolfsburg nor in the Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin. Their return would represent a significant boost for the club as the season gathers pace.
