Chelsea FC splashed out just under £1 million - a club record fee - to prise Alyssa Thompson away from Angel City FC on Deadline Day of the 2025 summer window. Not a bad way to make an entrance.
Thompson wasted no time justifying the price tag. Seven goals and three assists across 20 appearances in her debut Chelsea campaign earned her a spot in the EA Sports BWSL team of the season. She also picked up a nomination for BWSL Player of the Year - not too shabby for a first year.
Priced at £8.0 million in the Barclays WSL and WSL2 Fantasy game, Thompson is among the priciest midfielders on offer. Last term she racked up 108 Fantasy points, placing her 21st among midfielders. More impressively, she created 32 chances - the third-highest tally among wingers in the league, WSL Football reports.
Chelsea haven't stopped there. Manaka Matsukubo and Melvine Malard have both arrived to bolster the attack. More quality teammates should mean more space - and more returns - for Thompson.
Thompson featured in 20 of Chelsea's 22 WSL fixtures last season, starting 16. That kind of involvement suggests she'll be a near-permanent fixture again.
