Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed Carolin Simon as the new captain of their women's side ahead of the 2026-27 Bundesliga campaign. The 33-year-old defender, who returned to the club after a stint with FC Bayern München, replaces goalkeeper Friederike Repohl, who hung up her gloves at the end of last season.
Simon is no stranger to the Leverkusen setup. She represented the club between 2013 and 2016 before going on to collect five German championship titles with Bayern München. Speaking about the appointment, she said it means a great deal to lead the team once again at a club she knows so well.
Head coach Roberto Pätzold described Simon as a natural leader whose experience speaks for itself. He highlighted the responsibility she has shown both on and off the pitch since rejoining and praised her winning mentality, as Soccerdonna reports.
Simon's first match as captain comes tomorrow when Bayer Leverkusen host RB Leipzig at 16:00, with coverage available on MagentaSport and DAZN.
