Toronto's 12-game losing streak is finally over. The Tempo ground out an 82-79 victory over the Portland Fire at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, with Isabelle Harrison delivering a commanding 25-point, 10-rebound double-double to drag her side over the line.
It was Toronto's first win since 12 July, when they defeated New York - a drought that had stretched across nearly six weeks of frustration.
Kiki Rice equalled her career high with 19 points, and Laura Jukaite chipped in 15 as the Tempo found scoring from multiple sources. Portland's Bridget Carleton poured in 18 points, 10 of them in a blistering first quarter that helped the Fire build a 13-point advantage early on.
Portland clawed back late with a 13-0 run to seize a 76-75 lead, but Harrison answered with a crucial basket to restore Toronto's grip on the contest.
The win was all the more impressive given Toronto were without leading scorer Marina Mabrey and two other key players through injury. To make matters worse, Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow both left the game early after picking up knocks.
Both sides return to action on Sunday. Toronto travel to face the Las Vegas Aces, while Portland host Washington.
