Osaka steps aside

Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka has pulled out of the 2026 Cincinnati Open, telling fans she is simply too tired to compete. The Japanese star said she was disappointed to miss the tournament but hopes to be back next year.

A gruelling fortnight

The withdrawal is hardly surprising. Osaka has played seven matches across the Mubadala DC Open and the National Bank Open in Toronto over recent weeks, including two exhausting three-setters. She reached the semifinals in Washington DC before advancing to the quarterfinals in Toronto, where Alexandra Eala and Elena Rybakina proved too strong.

Siniakova steps in

Katerina Siniakova will replace Osaka in the draw and receives a bye into the second round, where she will meet either Jessica Bouzas Maneiro or Anna Bondar.

Eyes on Flushing Meadows

Osaka is now prioritising rest ahead of the US Open, a tournament she has won twice. Given the toll her recent schedule has taken, sitting out Cincinnati looks a shrewd call rather than risking burnout before the season's final Grand Slam, WTA reports.
