A breakthrough summer

Alex Eala's remarkable run of form this summer has catapulted her into the spotlight. The Filipino star claimed a Challenger title in Birmingham, reached the semi-finals in Berlin, and broke new ground at Wimbledon by advancing to the fourth round for the first time. Fatigue a growing concern

There is a catch, though. Eala has played more matches than any other player on the WTA Tour this season, and the toll is beginning to show. At the Canadian Open, she won her opening two matches before falling to Belinda Bencic in straight sets - a result that raises legitimate questions about her stamina heading into the US Open.
