Mainz 05 opened the doors of a packed MEWA Lounge on Tuesday evening for an intimate fan talk event brimming with optimism and genuine warmth. Organised by fan department stalwarts Jörg Happel and Alex Schulz under the banner "From Fans for Fans", the session brought supporters face to face with key figures from across the club.
Sports Director Niko Bungert, Head Coach Urs Fischer, summer recruit Fabio Gruber, forward Phillip Tietz and women's team player Chiara Bouziane all took part, reflecting on the season gone by and offering a glimpse of what lies ahead. The mood was familial rather than formal - exactly the kind of connection fans crave.
A major talking point was the historic rise of the Mainz 05 women's side. Their journey from roots at TSV SCHOTT Mainz to a first-ever promotion to the Frauen-Bundesliga captivated the room. Bouziane, a Mainz native, spoke emotionally about fulfilling a lifelong dream of representing the club.
Bungert acknowledged the financial muscle of rival clubs but stressed Mainz's ambitious outlook. The shift to full professionalism, he said, has already eased the burden on players who previously juggled training with work or studies. All eyes now turn to a marquee Frauen-Bundesliga clash against Eintracht Frankfurt at the MEWA Arena, with the club urging fans to pack the stadium.
