Bayer 04 Leverkusen kicked off their 2026/27 Frauen-Bundesliga campaign in style, dispatching RB Leipzig 2-0 on the road in front of 1,204 spectators. A dominant second-half display proved the difference on matchday one.
Cornelia Kramer broke the deadlock in the 55th minute after a neat passing sequence involving Vanessa Fudalla and Sofie Zdebel. Just eight minutes later, debutant Maja Sternad pounced on a deflected Kramer effort to double the advantage, as OneFootball reports. Leipzig goalkeeper Elvira Herzog was unable to keep either effort out.
Leipzig fielded ten new additions to their squad, four of whom made competitive debuts. Leverkusen also handed first outings to three summer signings - Marlene Müller, Carolin Simon, and Sternad.
The opening 45 minutes were closely contested. Fudalla struck the crossbar with a deflected shot, while Loreen Bender and Sternad went close. At the other end, Alieke Tuin and Delice Boboy threatened but could not find the net for the hosts.
Leverkusen never let up after going ahead. Substitutes Lobke Loonen and Valentina Mädl both came close to extending the lead, while Leipzig created late openings without converting. The visitors ran out comfortable winners in the end.
