At 34, Rachel Daly insists her life off the pitch is refreshingly dull. Walk the dogs. Hit the golf course. Repeat. She's been swinging clubs for about a year now and has already whittled her handicap down to 19 - not bad for someone whose day job involves a rather different kind of green.
As Aston Villa's captain and oldest squad member, Daly has embraced the elder stateswoman role with open arms. The younger players look up to her, she says, and she relishes sharing what she's witnessed across the evolution of women's football. It's a responsibility she clearly doesn't take lightly.
Heading into her fifth season at Villa Park, Daly shows no signs of itchy feet. She wants to stay, contribute, and keep building on the connections she's forged with team-mates and staff alike. Loyalty, it seems, isn't dead in football after all.
Daly helped England reach the 2023 World Cup final before stepping away from international duty. These days, she treasures international breaks as precious family time rather than tournament preparation - a trade-off she's clearly at peace with, The Guardian reports.
The Women's Super League campaign is fast approaching, and Daly wants Villa to improve on last term's showing. Early fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City won't make that easy, but she's never been one to shy away from a challenge.
