Angelina Anderson pulled off the save of the night on Sunday, denying Guro Reiten from the penalty spot to earn Angel City a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Gotham FC at home.
The drama arrived in the 82nd minute. What initially looked like a clean block was overturned by video review, with referee officials spotting a handball by Angel City defender Sarah Gorden. Reiten stepped up - but Anderson stood tall, keeping the scoresheet blank.
Anderson finished with four saves and a sixth shutout for Angel City. At the other end, Gotham's Ann-Katrin Berger was hardly idle, making three saves for her tenth clean sheet this season. Gotham's unbeaten run now stretches to nine matches, AP reports.
Gotham were dealt a blow in the first half when midfielder Rose Lavelle hit the back of her head after a heavy fall in the 31st minute. She was evaluated by medical staff before being withdrawn six minutes later.
Elsewhere in Sunday's action, Orlando Pride edged Washington Spirit 1-0 thanks to Haley McCutcheon's strike. Chicago Stars came out on top in a five-goal thriller, beating Racing Louisville 3-2. And Bay FC saw off Houston Dash 1-0, with Cristiana Girelli netting her first ever NWSL goal.
