1. FC Union Berlin's difficult opening to the Bundesliga season showed no signs of easing on Saturday, as SC Freiburg secured a 1-0 victory at the Dreisamstadion in front of 1,806 supporters.
It marks a second consecutive defeat for Union, who are yet to register a single point this campaign.
The match was settled by a single moment of quality in the 54th minute. Lisa Karl rose highest to meet a corner kick and powered a header into the net, giving Freiburg all three points.
Union's preparations were disrupted before kick-off when regular goalkeeper Cara Bösl was unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances. Nadine Böhi was called upon as her replacement, as Soccerdonna reports.
Union Berlin will look to get their season up and running on 7 September when they face Eintracht Frankfurt - but the pressure is already building after a winless start.
