The result marks Rakhimova's first ever victory over Krejcikova in two WTA Tour meetings and sends her into the second round at Flushing Meadows for the second time in her career.
Remarkably, she has now reached the second round at three consecutive Grand Slams, having won opening matches at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier this season. She also boasts three career Grand Slam wins over seeded opponents - a record that quietly underlines her big-match pedigree.
The numbers backed up what unfolded on court. Rakhimova won 72% of points on her first serve, comfortably outperforming Krejcikova's 61% in the same category.
