Karl's header seals Konrad's first home win

SC Freiburg got Marco Konrad's tenure at the Dreisamstadion off to the perfect start, grinding out a 1-0 victory over 1. FC Union Berlin in the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga on Friday evening.

Captain Lisa Karl proved the match-winner, rising to nod home from a corner in the 53rd minute - the only goal a crowd of 1,806 needed to see.

Tight first half gives way to Freiburg pressure

Union Berlin held the majority of possession throughout, yet rarely troubled Freiburg's defence before the break. Konrad stuck with the same starting eleven that faced Hamburger SV in the previous fixture, despite missing several players through injury and other absences.

On the opposite bench, Union head coach Marie-Louise Eta was forced into two changes, most notably installing Nadine Böhi in goal after an injury to her first-choice keeper.

Reimann stands firm

After Karl's header broke the deadlock, Freiburg pushed for a second but couldn't find the net. Union rallied and crafted openings of their own, only to be denied by goalkeeper Anna Reimann, who produced a string of important saves to preserve the clean sheet.
