Tolhoek rescues Frankfurt with late equaliser

Eintracht Frankfurt were staring at an embarrassing defeat before Danique Tolhoek struck in the 86th minute to snatch a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Nürnberg in the Frauen-Bundesliga.

Nürnberg had taken the lead through Louna Lapassouse midway through the first half, capitalising on a disjointed Frankfurt side that struggled to find any rhythm after head coach Niko Arnautis opted for wholesale changes to his starting eleven.

Seven changes backfire initially

Arnautis rotated heavily, making seven alterations and dropping key figures Larissa Mühlhaus and Erëleta Memeti to the bench. Noemi Ivelj, Jarne Teulings, Jamilla Rankin, Haley Raso, Pia-Sophie Wolter, Tolhoek and Sara Doorsoun all came into the side.

The reshuffle showed. Nürnberg dominated the midfield from the outset, and Lapassouse was left unmarked to fire home in the 32nd minute, as Soccerdonna reports.

Second-half fightback

Arnautis turned to Mühlhaus and Memeti at half-time, but misfortune struck when Mühlhaus picked up an injury shortly after coming on. Goalkeeper Lina Altenburg kept Frankfurt in the contest with several sharp saves as defensive errors continued to plague the side.

It was Memeti who ultimately made the difference, threading a pass to Tolhoek, who finished coolly to spare Frankfurt's blushes. Attention now turns to their next fixture against Paris.
