Austrian centre-back Marina Georgieva has completed a move to Mainz 05 from Union Berlin ahead of the new season. The 29-year-old defender's contract length has not been made public.
Known for sharp tackling, intelligent positioning, and vocal leadership, Georgieva is expected to shore up Mainz's backline while providing guidance to the squad's younger talent.
Georgieva's journey started at FK Hainburg, with a loan at ASK Bruck/Leitha before she joined FSK St. Pölten in 2013. Two Austrian championship titles followed in 2015 and 2016. A January 2017 switch took her to 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, then SC Sand until 2022. Spells at Paris Saint-Germain and AC Florenz - where she racked up 49 appearances - preceded her October 2025 return to Germany with Union Berlin, as Soccerdonna reports.
Georgieva has represented Austria at every youth level and earned more than 45 senior caps - experience that adds real weight to Mainz's defensive ranks.
