London City Lionesses have pulled off what can only be described as a transfer window heist. Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas and defender Mapi León have both swapped FC Barcelona for the WSL club this summer.
Putellas arrives after 14 years at Barcelona - practically a lifetime in football terms. León, meanwhile, joined once her Barça contract expired, reuniting with her former teammate in east London.

The impact off the pitch has been just as dramatic. Season tickets for 2026/27 have already sold out completely, as OneFootball reports. Still, the club insists this isn't just about borrowed star power. The long-term goal is to forge a distinct identity - one that eventually stands on its own rather than riding on players' illustrious CVs from Camp Nou.
