VfL Wolfsburg Women produced a remarkable turnaround in their Bundesliga season opener, recovering from two goals down to demolish 1. FC Nürnberg 8-2 - a result that sets the tone ahead of a crucial European date later this week.
Nürnberg looked sharp early on. Fany Proniez opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Keira Bednorz doubled the visitors' lead just before the break. At half-time, Wolfsburg had serious questions to answer.
The turning point arrived six minutes into the second half when Proniez received a yellow-red card, reducing Nürnberg to ten. Janina Minge converted the resulting penalty to make it 1-2, and Cora Zicai then struck twice in quick succession to complete the comeback.
From there, it was one-way traffic. Weronika Arasniewicz marked her Bundesliga debut with a goal, while Minge added another. Camilla Küver and Ella Peddemors piled on late strikes to seal an emphatic 8-2 victory, as OneFootball reports.
