Freier heads back to Brisbane

Left winger Sharn Freier will suit up for Brisbane Roar once again in the 2026/27 season, the club has confirmed. The 25-year-old Australian international spent last season on loan at the Queensland outfit and has now secured a more permanent return, as Soccerdonna reports.

Wolfsburg contract uncertainty

Brisbane has offered no clarity on how Freier's existing deal with VfL Wolfsburg - signed until 30 June 2028 - factors into the move. Wolfsburg originally announced her signing in January 2025 for the 2025/26 campaign, but she returned to Brisbane on loan that September citing personal reasons.

Injury setback

Freier made twelve appearances in the A-League Women last term, netting three goals and providing four assists before suffering an ACL injury in early February. It was the second cruciate ligament injury of her career and ended her season prematurely.

Rise through the ranks

A Brisbane Roar player since 2020, Freier broke through during the 2023/24 season, nailing down a regular starting role on the left flank. That form earned her a first call-up to the Australian national team, and since debuting in April 2024 she has won nine caps, scored twice, and featured in the squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
