Asterisk Talley, just 17, storms into the LPGA Portland Classic after obliterating the field at the U.S. Women's Amateur with a second USGA title already in hand.
AIFresh off a demolition job at the U.S. Women's Amateur, 17-year-old Asterisk Talley is turning her attention to the LPGA Portland Classic. The Californian prodigy crushed Anna Iwanaga of Japan 8-and-6 to claim her second USGA title - all before finishing high school.
Talley was dominant from the outset, building a 3-up lead through 18 holes. Iwanaga briefly clawed back to 1-up after taking the ninth, but Talley shut the door with a birdie on the 11th to level proceedings. She then rattled off two more wins before a chipped-in eagle on the 11th of the afternoon session blew the match wide open at 7 up.
Talley has committed to Stanford for her college golf career. She called the Amateur triumph the pinnacle of her amateur days so far and has her sights firmly set on the U.S. Women's Open next year.
Talley won't be the only amateur causing a stir. The Portland Classic field boasts 2026 Augusta National Women's Amateur winner Maria Jose Marin, NCAA champion Farah O'Keefe, and Women's British Amateur champion Valentine Delon. Jacinda Lee of Colorado State and 2025 U.S. Women's Amateur champion Megha Ganne also feature. Notably absent is world No. 1 amateur Kiara Romero, who is expected to secure her LPGA card via the LEAP standings.
