Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace have unveiled a three-player captaincy structure for the coming campaign, naming Amber Barrett, Kristin Kögel, and Morgane Martins as co-captains at the club's first press conference of the season on 20 August.
The announcement introduces an international flavour to the armband, with Ireland's Barrett, Germany's Kögel, and Portugal's Martins sharing the responsibility.
Head coach Vincent Nogueira outlined the thinking behind the shared leadership model, as Footeuses reports. Positional variety and natural leadership qualities were key considerations, he said, while stressing the need to ensure the added duties do not weigh on any individual's on-pitch output.
Martins arrives as the most seasoned of the three in domestic terms, boasting six Arkema Première Ligue campaigns under her belt. Barrett has impressed since joining the league and has been in strong form for months. Kögel, meanwhile, is set for her debut taste of the French top flight - a fresh challenge for the German midfielder.
