Manchester City academy product Lily Murphy has completed a season-long loan switch to Aston Villa in the Women's Super League.
AILily Murphy is swapping Manchester for Birmingham after sealing a season-long loan move to Aston Villa in the Barclays Women's Super League.
The deal gives the young goalkeeper - sorry, forward? midfielder? Let's just say "talented footballer" - a chance to rack up more minutes at a club that finished ninth in the WSL last campaign. Glamorous? Perhaps not. Useful? Absolutely.
Murphy came through City's Academy and wasted no time making an impression. Her senior debut arrived in a UEFA Women's Champions League qualifier, and she inked her first professional deal in December 2024.
Her breakout season was properly busy - 22 appearances, a first senior goal in the Champions League, and another strike in the League Cup against Manchester United. Not bad for a teenager finding her feet.
Last season started promisingly when Murphy was named in the starting lineup for the opening fixture. An injury cut that short, however, forcing a spell on the sidelines.
She worked her way back via Next Gen matches before contributing to the first team's campaign once more. Resilient stuff.
Villa offers Murphy the platform to develop further with regular game time, as OneFootball reports. City will be watching closely.
