Delgado receives her belt in Panama

Nataly Delgado was formally handed her WBA Super Flyweight World Championship belt by the organisation's president, Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, at a Monday evening ceremony in Panama. Family, friends and WBA officials were all present for the occasion.

Victory over Artiga sealed the title

Delgado claimed the title back in June with a victory over Jasmine Artiga. The custom-engraved belt was presented in recognition of both her championship win and her wider contribution to Panamanian boxing, The World Boxing Association reports.

Mendoza's broader Panama agenda

The belt ceremony was just one part of Mendoza's schedule during his Panama visit. Presidential Advisor Oliver Gómez and WBA Future Program Director Alfredo Mendoza also attended the event.

Earlier the same day, the WBA president sat down with Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi to explore sports development initiatives centred on boxing. Mendoza voiced his eagerness to forge closer ties with Panamanian authorities in support of young athletes across the country.
