Temwa Chawinga announced herself on the biggest stage in African women's football with a brace that fired Malawi to a shock 3-2 victory over defending champions Nigeria in their WAFCON debut. It was a statement performance from the forward - and one that sent shockwaves through the tournament.
Not to be outdone, Barbra Banda put on a clinic of her own. The NWSL Golden Boot leader hammered four goals past Egypt as Zambia cruised to a 6-0 demolition. Her form right now is nothing short of frightening.
The two standout performers are set for a direct showdown when Malawi face Zambia on 5 August in the final group stage fixture. The pair already crossed paths earlier this summer in the NWSL, where Banda netted in a match won by Orlando Pride.
Chawinga and Banda aren't the only league representatives leaving their mark. Rosemounde Kouassi provided an assist in Ivory Coast's 4-1 thumping of Burkina Faso, while Mélissa Bethi found the net in Algeria's 2-0 triumph over Senegal, as reported by NWSL.
Group stage action continues until 6 August, with the quarterfinals kicking off on 8 August.
