Mara Alber's Chelsea adventure hasn't exactly gone to plan - so she's doing the sensible thing and heading home. VfL Wolfsburg have snapped up the 20-year-old forward on loan for the 2026/2027 season, as confirmed by WSL Full-Time.

A familiar pitch

Germany is hardly unfamiliar territory for Alber. She's been a fixture in the top flight for five years, having come through the ranks at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before making her move to west London last summer. That switch didn't deliver the breakthrough she hoped for, and a loan spell at Werder Bremen in the second half of last season told its own story.

Youth pedigree

Alber has worn the Germany shirt at multiple youth levels, including the Under-23s. Talent has never been the question - opportunity and timing have.

The young forward is clearly buzzing about the move. She pointed to Wolfsburg's serious ambitions in women's football as a major draw.
