Fisher commits to Sassuolo despite injury setback

Sassuolo have handed Samantha Fisher a contract extension through to 30 June 2027, backing the El Salvador midfielder as she continues her comeback from a serious knee injury.

The 26-year-old ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during a training session on 18 August 2025, ruling her out for the entirety of the 2025/26 Serie A Women campaign. The new deal is a clear show of faith from the Italian club, as Soccerdonna reports.

Promising debut season cut short

Fisher arrived in Sassuolo from the Chicago Red Stars in July 2024 and quickly made an impression. She featured in 19 league matches during her opening Italian campaign, starting 14 and finding the net three times.

From college star to international

A product of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish programme, Fisher netted 29 goals in 91 college appearances between 2017 and 2021. The Chicago Red Stars selected her 19th overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft. Across 23 matches in the NWSL, she registered one goal and one assist before heading to Europe.

On the international stage, Fisher debuted for El Salvador in February 2024 and has since earned ten caps, scoring four goals - all during the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup against Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.
