Angel Reese delivered the finest performance of her career on Saturday night, pouring in 31 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as the Atlanta Dream beat the Phoenix Mercury 99-89 to clinch a playoff berth.
It was Reese's 25th double-double of the campaign - a new Atlanta single-season record. She's now just three short of the all-time WNBA mark. Shooting 14 of 21 from the field, Reese followed up what had been a perfect outing in her previous game with another ruthlessly efficient display.
Reese wasn't alone. Rhyne Howard chipped in 20 points, Allisha Gray added 17, and Jordin Canada contributed 12 as the Dream improved to 24-13 on the season.
Kahleah Copper fought valiantly with 38 points for Phoenix, but it wasn't enough. The Mercury - WNBA finalists last season - saw their playoff hopes officially extinguished, dropping to 13-24.
Atlanta stormed out to a 14-3 lead and never looked back. They held a 29-18 advantage after the first quarter and went into the break up 50-35. Phoenix clawed back in the third period, trimming the deficit to 73-68, but the Dream held firm down the stretch.
Atlanta wrap up their four-game West Coast road trip against Los Angeles on Monday. Phoenix host Washington on Tuesday and Thursday.
