O'Reilly exits Como after two years

Hall of Famer departs Italian club

Heather O'Reilly has left Como 1907, bringing an end to a two-year stint as Head of Women's Football at the Italian club. No explanation was offered by Como for the departure, nor were any details shared about what comes next for the American, Soccerdonna reports.

Back-to-back promotions

O'Reilly arrived at Como in August 2024 as a consultant tasked with guiding the women's side through their debut Eccellenza campaign. The results were remarkable. A second-place finish in 2024/25 earned promotion to Serie B, and under coach Selena Mazzantini, the team clinched the Serie B title with three matches to spare - sealing a direct path to Serie A Women.

Structural changes at Como

Shortly before O'Reilly's exit, the club restructured its sporting leadership by installing Nils Nielsen as Technical Director, charged with overseeing the long-term development of both the first team and the youth academy.

Decorated playing career

O'Reilly brought serious pedigree to the role. She earned 231 caps for the US Women's National Team, scoring 47 goals, and collected a World Cup winner's medal in 2015 alongside Olympic golds in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Her legacy was cemented in May 2026 when she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
