Captain Anna Nordqvist has loaded her Euro Solheim Cup squad with rookies - and LPGA newcomer Nastasia Nadaud is the most unexpected pick of the lot.
AICaptain Anna Nordqvist has raised eyebrows by handing LPGA rookie Nastasia Nadaud a spot on the Euro Solheim Cup squad. Three of her four captain's picks are rookies. That's a statement - and a risk.
The selection was sealed after Nordqvist spoke with Nadaud in Scotland, just before the team was finalised. Nadaud herself admitted she hadn't even considered the Solheim Cup until recently. Surprise picks don't come much more surprising than this.
Still, the numbers back the decision. Nadaud hasn't missed a cut since mid-May. She's posted four top-25 finishes, including a T-22 at the Evian. She sits seventh on the LPGA in strokes gained off the tee and 12th in driving distance. Her birdie percentage ranks 20th on tour.
Leona Maguire is the only experienced name among Nordqvist's captain's selections. The rest are untested at this level. Bold or reckless? Time will tell.
Nadaud picked up a club at six, introduced to the game by her father. She originally intended to play college golf in the US but turned professional sooner than planned, earning her LET card for the 2023 season and her LPGA card for 2026. Currently ranked 88th in the world, she's rising fast, as reported by USA Today.
