Minnesota's late-game meltdown against the Sparks leaves them searching for answers as a crucial Western Conference date with Las Vegas looms on Saturday.
AIMinnesota's bid to build momentum ahead of their Western Conference clash with Las Vegas hit a wall after the Lynx fell 89-82 to the Sparks in painful fashion.
Kayla McBride drilled a three-pointer to put the Lynx up 82-81, but that was the last time Minnesota found the net. The team missed their final seven shots and went scoreless over the last 4 minutes and 53 seconds.
Nneka Ogwumike converted a go-ahead layup before Erica Wheeler knocked down a pull-up jumper from ten feet. Monique Akoa Makani and Wheeler sealed the win with the closing baskets in a decisive 8-0 surge.
Rae Burrell topped the Sparks' scoring with 17 points. Dearica Hamby and Ogwumike each posted 16 points, with Hamby adding nine rebounds. Wheeler finished with 12 points and nine assists, and Cameron Brink chipped in 12 points.
Rookie Olivia Miles was outstanding for Minnesota, finishing with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Napheesa Collier was equally impressive, recording 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists - but it was not enough.
The Lynx now turn their attention to Saturday's home meeting with the Las Vegas Aces. The Sparks, meanwhile, host Golden State on Sunday night.
