The Barclays Women's Super League 2 roars into life this weekend, and it's bringing a pair of wide-eyed newcomers along for the ride. Both Watford and Burnley have earned their promotions - now comes the bit where they have to prove they belong.
Watford kick things off at home, back in tier two after storming through the Southern Premier Division. Forward Madison Perry bagged 25 goals in 30 appearances last season, which is the sort of form that makes defenders lose sleep. It's the club's second crack at this level following relegation in 2023-2024.
Burnley, meanwhile, arrive unbeaten from the FA Women's National League North. Millie Ravening netted 22 goals and scooped Player of the Season. Not a bad CV for a BWSL2 debut, as WSL Football reports.
Durham host Southampton at Maiden Castle Sports Park. Durham squeaked past relegation last term, finishing 10th. Southampton, fifth last season, must cope without departed captain Atlanta Primus.
Sunderland face Bristol City at Eppleton Colliery Football Ground. Sunderland haven't tasted a league win since March - ouch. Bristol City finished fourth but will be without Lexi Lloyd-Smith, who left in July. New signing Elise Hughes could be key for the hosts.
Sheffield United take on relegated Leicester City at Bramall Lane, bolstered by Arsenal arrival Sophie Harwood. Newcastle host Wolverhampton - Wolves' first-ever BWSL2 outing after beating Plymouth Argyle in the playoffs. And Ipswich Town meet Nottingham Forest at JobServe Community Stadium, hoping to plug the gap left by departing top scorer Sophie Peskett.
