Club legend Lauren Barnes returns to Seattle Reign in an assistant coaching role, bringing 13 years of playing experience to the sideline.

Lauren Barnes is back at Seattle Reign - but this time she's calling the shots from the sideline. The club legend, who hung up her boots after an extraordinary 13-year playing career, has been appointed assistant coach through to the end of the 2026 season.
Barnes holds the league record with 252 appearances for Reign, her final professional minutes coming on 7 November 2025. Now she's channelling that wealth of experience into coaching.
The role became available after Lee Nguyen departed to join Dallas Trinity FC. Head coach Laura Harvey had already been eyeing a shift towards more individualised player development - and Barnes fitted the brief perfectly, as Equalizer Soccer reports.
Barnes sees herself as a natural link between coaching staff and players. Her intimate knowledge of the squad, she believes, will sharpen communication and accelerate development across the group.
Former teammates Jess Fishlock and Phoebe McClernon have welcomed the move, praising Barnes's deep understanding of the women's game as a genuine asset for the side going forward.
