The English women's League Cup has a new name, a new look, and a format built around player welfare for the 2026-2027 season.

The rebrand comes off the back of a renewed multi-year deal between Subway and WSL Football, as Footeuses reports.
The revamped cup puts player welfare front and centre. The format is specifically designed to ease fixture congestion - a noble goal in a sport where packed schedules are about as popular as a VAR delay.
Champions League clubs won't feature. That means Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City are sitting this one out.
WSL Football will also reveal a brand-new visual identity for the competition. The emblem draws inspiration from trophy-lift celebrations - because nothing says "cup competition" quite like mimicking the bit everyone actually remembers.
Twenty-three clubs from the Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Super League 2 will compete across two phases.
A Swiss-format group stage runs from September to December, with each side playing six matches against regional opponents under a single ranking system. The top eight progress to a knockout phase beginning in January, culminating in a final at a neutral venue in March 2027. The location? Still TBC.
