1. FC Union Berlin's women's side find themselves second from bottom in the Bundesliga after losing both of their opening fixtures this season. It is hardly the start anyone at the club envisaged, but the message from the top is clear: don't panic.
Managing director Jennifer Zietz has asked supporters and observers alike to exercise patience. The squad is still adapting to fresh training methods and the demands of the coaching staff, she explained, stressing that cohesion takes time to develop.
Union have moved to bolster their ranks with two notable signings. Defender Judit Pujols, 21, arrives from VfL Wolfsburg, while experienced midfielder Lina Hausicke, 28, joins from Werder Bremen. Zietz singled out Hausicke's leadership qualities as exactly what the group needs, Soccerdonna reports.
Despite solid financial and structural foundations, Zietz conceded the transfer market has posed difficulties. Some targets have their sights set on Champions League football - a stage Union Berlin have yet to reach.
Club president Dirk Zingler highlighted broader market pressures. The rapid expansion of women's football, combined with aggressive spending by elite clubs, is creating a shortage of top-tier talent - pushing both fees and wages upward.
