NWSL stars make Ballon d'Or Féminin shortlist

The 2026 Ballon d'Or Féminin shortlist dropped on Tuesday, and the NWSL has planted four of its own on the prestigious list. France Football's annual prize for the world's finest female footballer features a strong American league contingent this time around.

Banda leads the charge

Orlando Pride's Barbra Banda headlines the NWSL nominees after rattling in 14 goals across club and international duty with Zambia. It's the third year running she's earned a nod - a streak that underlines her status as one of the game's most lethal forwards.

Temwa Chawinga of Kansas City and Gotham's Rose Lavelle both picked up their second nominations. Chawinga, a two-time NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner, continues to terrorise defences, while Lavelle's six goals and instrumental role in Gotham's championship triumph made her impossible to ignore.

Goalkeepers get their due

Lorena rounds out the quartet after a record-breaking 16 clean sheets earned her the 2025 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year award. Gotham's Ann-Katrin Berger also features, nominated for Women's Goalkeeper of the Year on the back of 23 shutouts during the qualifying window, as detailed by NWSL.
