Denver's 3-0 demolition of Gotham FC was headlined by Yazmeen Ryan netting against her old club - a moment that stung as much as the scoreline suggested.
It was Yuzuki Yamamoto who broke the deadlock five minutes after the restart, lashing home a volley on the end of an Ayo Oke assist. Rookie Olivia Thomas doubled the lead in the 82nd minute before Ryan slotted coolly into the bottom left corner six minutes later. Kat Asman was commanding between the sticks, pulling off four saves to keep the clean sheet.
Elsewhere, Ashley Sanchez put herself firmly at the top of the Golden Boot standings with a hat-trick as North Carolina Courage obliterated the Chicago Stars 6-0. She now has 18 goals for the campaign.
Washington Spirit showed real character to overturn a deficit and beat the Portland Thorns 2-1, while Orlando Pride dispatched Houston Dash 3-1. Barbra Banda's 14th goal of the season set a new single-season scoring record for the Pride, eclipsing the mark previously held by Marta.
Seattle Reign edged San Diego Wave 1-0 in a feisty encounter. The Reign played with a numerical advantage for the vast majority of proceedings after San Diego's Amelia Van Zanten was shown a straight red card in the 13th minute.
Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey was superb for Seattle, making six saves before being forced off following a collision - a worrying note on an otherwise positive night for the Reign.
