Five years ago, HB Koge's women's team waltzed into the Champions League group stage and promptly got walloped. Six matches, six defeats, a goal difference of 2-22. Ouch.
But they earned respect - and now they're back for more.
The Danish side have landed in a group featuring some of European football's heavyweights. FC Barcelona, the reigning champions, will visit Koge alongside Benfica and Servette. Away from home, HB Koge travel to Arsenal, Paris FC, and OH Leuven.
Not exactly a gentle reintroduction, then.
Head coach Christian Morch insists this is a different HB Koge from the one that was swatted aside in 2021. The club qualified for their first-ever Champions League group stage that year after winning the Danish title, but the step up proved brutal.
This time, Morch believes they are far better prepared, as Flashscore reports.
Morch is under no illusions about the scale of the challenge. But his focus is on development rather than results alone. Facing elite opposition will dramatically increase HB Koge's fixture count this season - and the coach sees that as a golden opportunity to show their quality and grow.
